This enju (Japanese pagoda tree) wood is sourced from Hokkaido, where the trees grow under harsh, extremely cold conditions. Because the word “enju” can be written with characters that suggest long life and good fortune, it has long been regarded as an auspicious wood, often chosen for commemorative gifts and formal presentations.
It has a deep, dignified color and beautiful grain, with very little odor, making it ideal for use as tableware. At the same time, its hardness makes it difficult to work with, requiring a high level of skill in shaping. The craftsmen even forge their own blades, creating tools specifically suited to this material.

極寒の地の厳しい環境で育った北海道産の槐（えんじゅ）。「円寿」や「延寿」と記して縁起物の木として、記念品や贈答品にも使用されてきました。
重厚な色合いで木目が美しく、匂いも少ないので、食品の器として最適です。一方で、その硬さで加工が難しく、成形には高度な技術を要します。職人は自ら鍛治で素材に適した刃物を制作します。
漆器は食洗機を避け、手洗いをお勧めします。地域によっては乾燥に注意をしてください。一部、検疫で木製品が禁止となっている国や地域もありますが、漆器については問題なく輸入できます。（2020年現在）
