What is “guinomi”?
A guinomi is a small Japanese sake cup. Compact enough to fit comfortably in the hand, it allows you to enjoy the tactile qualities of the material, and can also be used as a mini tea cup or small bowl.
KIRI “guinomi” Series
We travel to kiln towns across Japan and select each piece at the workshop, building a collection that reflects the character of each region. Clay bodies, glazes, and firing expressions differ from place to place. Notice the weight in your palm, the feel of the rim, and the texture under your fingers — and choose the cup that suits you.
Mikawachi-ware originated in the late 16th century under the patronage of local feudal lords and has come to embody the traditions of Japanese ceramic culture. It is especially known for its mastery of sometsuke, the blue-and-white painting technique.
Among Japanese porcelain, Mikawachi-ware is renowned for its exceptionally fine decoration. The delicate brushwork and subtle gradations of blue are considered a pinnacle of artisanal skill. Intricate lines and deep shading convey a level of craftsmanship that has been refined and perfected over generations, giving quiet depth and elegance to pure white porcelain.
