In Japan, Wakasa lacquered chopsticks represent one of the country’s most enduring crafts, accounting for nearly 80% of all lacquered chopsticks produced nationwide. Unlike other regions that rely on Wakasa for wooden bases, Wakasa is unique in completing the entire process—from crafting the base wood to finishing with lacquer—ensuring both high quality and remarkable value.
Paired with these chopsticks is a “ume-musubi” (plum-knot) chopstick rest made from Mizuhiki, a decorative cord hand-crafted in Iida, Nagano. Mizuhiki has long been used in Japan to convey good wishes in gift-giving. The pairing of chopsticks—seen as “hashi,” or bridges—and a symbolic knot expresses the idea of connecting people through culture.

若狭の箸は、日本の塗箸の約八割を占める一大産地です。全国の漆器産地に供給される木地の多くも若狭で生産されており、他の産地が木地を仕入れて塗りを施すのに対し、若狭では木地づくりから塗箸としての完成まで一貫して行うことができます。そのため、高い品質を保ちながら、他産地に比べて安定した価格で仕上げられるのが特徴です。
合わせたのは、長野県飯田の水引で作られた「梅結び」の箸置き。水引は古来より、贈り物に特別な願いを込める日本の習慣です。箸を「かけ橋（はし）」に見立て、水引を添えることで、人と人を結ぶ想いを表現しています。
角のある断面は持ちやすく、乾漆仕上げは指先に心地よい質感を与え、食材がすべりにくいのも特徴です。いずれも水引の箸置きが2個付属し、実用性と文化的な意味を兼ね備えたギフトです。
